Kathmandu to Overland Lhasa tour through Kerung Border begins with a drive over the Himalayas by Kathmandu – Rasawa – Kerung High way which connects Kathmandu with Lhasa, Enjoying wonderful Tibetan mountain scenery on the way to Lhasa, you will have a tour to mystic Buddhist monasteries along the way plus you will visit Yamdrok – Tso Lake and the Tibetan lifeline river Brahma Putra (Yarlung Tsangpo).
Yamdrok-Tso Lake (4441m/14570ft) is over 72 kilometers long situated in Nagarze County, Shannan District, which is about 70 km away from Lhasa, surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and fed by numerous small streams.
Tour Plan
Early in the morning, you will have a scenic drive to Rasuwagadi (154km) on the Nepal-Tibet border. After immigration formalities, meet with our Tibet guide who will transfer you to Kerung (23Km). Overnight stay at Guest House.
After breakfast drive uphill to the highest plateau of the world offering sheer feeling of standing on the roof of the world from where we can breathtaking panorama of beautiful Himalayan ranges including Mt Cho Oyu (8201 M) & Mt Xishapagma (8012M) and Mt. Everest(8848m). Overnight stay at Guest House.
After breakfast drive continues crossing over Gyatchu La (5220m/17125ft) which is the highest pass enroute to Lhasa. Overnight stay at Hotel.
After breakfast in the morning, a short sightseeing to Panchen Lama’s Tashi Lhumpu Monastery and drive to Gyantse and visit Phalkor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa. Overnight stay at Hotel.
After breakfast drive to Lhasa via crossing Yamdrok Lake (4441m/14570ft) and Karola Glacier. Yamdrok Lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and in the distance you have spectacular views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar. And it is one of the three Holy Lakes in Tibet with Lake Namtso, Lake Mansarovar. Karola Glacier is located in Lang Kartse County right next to the main road. Just about 30 minutes drive from Yamdrok Lake. Karola Glacier has a total of almost 10 square kilometers, with length of 5 kilometers or slightly less. The glacier which can be seen is at around 5200 meters high. Overnight stay at Hotel.
After breakfast, you will have a full day Lhasa city tour. You’ll visit the UNESCO-listed Potala Palace, a focal point for Tibetan Buddhism and home to the Dalai Lama for many centuries, you’ll also explore the 1300-year-old Jokhang Temple with its sacred golden Buddha, the spiritual epicenter of Tibetan Buddhism. Explore Barkhor Street to witness daily lifestyle of Tibetan Monks. Overnight stay at Hotel.
Transfer to Airport for your connecting flight to Kathmandu or onward.
