KATHMANDU, May 30: In order to bring high spending tourists to the country, the government has decided to prioritize meeting, incentive conference and exhibition (MICE).
While announcing the budget of Fiscal Year 2019/2020, Yubaraj Khatiwada, Minister of Finance said that roads and meeting venues will be constructed to promote MICE tourism. Around 2.68 billion rupees has been allocated by government while announcing the budget of the new fiscal year.
“The government will expedite development of infrastructure, identify new tourism products and promote existing products as part of preparation for the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign,” Khatiwada said.
He also mentioned that by identifying the historical forts and trails used in the unification of Nepal, they will try to promote them as the tourist detonations. At the same time they are planning to promote mountains, agriculture, rural, water, sports, heritage, religious and cultural places and medicines to bring more tourists in the country.
The government has also unveiled a plan to build a eco trekking trail from Taplejung in the east to Darchula in the west. Stating that the government will prioritize adventure tourism, Khatiwada also said that Rara Lake will be developed into a premier tourist destination.
